Why people are so emotional? I was rather annoyed.
First flight, Dhaka to Hong Kong by Dragonair. When the plane was leaving I was looking down on the city lights and I was thinking about coming back already. But life has opportunities we have to keep looking for, anyway, the woman beside me was going to Japan, to meet her daughter, alone; and throughout the flight she kept wondering and asking me some really weird questions. I was assured that I can’t be the one frightened seeing her expression before the dragon took off. She asked questions like – is the sky below us? LOL!!
HK airport is epitome of modern architecture, and HK itself is a really beautiful country with islands and mountains. 8 hours transit, I luckily was accompanied by a brilliant lady who has been living abroad in US and Canada for past 15 years. She looked after my hand baggage when I had to sleep dead tired. We were sharing the same destination to Vancouver. Without Salma apu it would be bad time there for sure.
Soon it started raining in HK and flight was delayed. When Cathay Pacific took off it was still raining. Immediately after taking off we were in a storm and there was really heavy turbulence. I thought this was it! I saw from the window that we had gone through a giant black cloud. For the first time, I liked White more than Black! It was not so good 12 hours straight flight with bad weather and bad food. Almost all the passengers went to toilet. It’s no mystery why! The captain did a great job I have to say!
I arrived at Vancouver one our late and had to go through immigration and then catch next flight to Montreal – all in 2 hours. Picked up my luggage and went to Immigration. I looked at the long queue and I was sure I was going to miss the flight. I asked an officer what to do and she told me to relax and said they would manage the flight for me. Luckily, an officer called my name and handed me the study permit and I could leap through like 50 people. Immigration officer made me laugh with some funny remarks. They were all funny actually, unlike what you would think of police officers in other places. Everything checked, I got the permit and ran off to Air Canada boarding gate for Montreal flight.
Vancouver airport is somewhat 180 degree of HK airport, it’s less automated and more classical. Everyone is more “French” and working and making jokes. It’s cool. The flight was operated with French crew. I was hungry because of the long flight and non stop strolling but couldn’t buy food because they would only accept credit card. So I slept instead. 6 hours later, I arrived at Montreal at 12:40. Picked up my luggage, called Saiful bhai’s parents. I did not have coins to make a phone call. So I went to this coffee shop and told the girl there I needed coins and I would buy anything from the shop. She gave me some coins. That was kind. So I took a taxi. The driver was from Lebanon and we had small talk. He is here for over 20 years. He wished me luck.
I did not expect the house to be this beautiful, I called my father and he talked with Saiful bhai’s father. They are really nice to me. Uncle showed me the house, I had dinner. I was lucky to have met some wonderful people through the long journey.
17136 miles. I finally could lie down in my new twin sized bed. There was a rush of emotion right then, I told myself, hey it’s just an overflow of emotion. I missed home terribly suddenly, although I did not allow myself to have a reason to miss you before leaving. May be I won’t be able to be there even if I wanted. May be I realize that fact and it was evident. I am away.
