I am not a supporter of any political party of Bangladesh. However, I support the Shahbag movement. When I heard about the protest, I joined, along with countless others – to demand highest punishment for war criminal Kader Mollah.
The movement, has been dubbed by Jamat-Shibir as a staged protest brought by Awami League. I will rest the argument by saying this – there are countless people like me, who joined the movement with our our nation’s necessity, not by responding to any call from Awami League, but the call for justice, we joined paying heed to the undying spirit of 1971, when the war criminals that Jamat-Shibir are trying to save, tortured your own countrymen. They raped thousands, burned down thousands of homes. It’s debatable that all major political parties are bad for our future, but least, Shahbag came as an opportunity for their redemption.
Jamat-Shibir has been very vocal about police brutality on their processions. The fact is, the procession are not peaceful at all, unlike Shahbag. There is not a single incident of violence related to the people at Shahbag. On the other side, Jamat-Shibir is focused only to create violence. There are numerous reports by local media. In this situation, the duty of police is to fight fire with fire. To stop the violent fundamentalist mob, the police has to attack back. I don’t know what can be worse than a fundamentalist mob blinded with the hatred created by religious sentiments.

The misguided people have to understand and concede the fact that, burning down houses of minorities is only proving the true intentions of political edge, to distort the issue by inflicting the idea into many uneducated (especially in the areas outside Dhaka) and Bangladesh being a country where people are unaware of the Shahbag movement properly due to lack of media reach and education, the fact is used by Jamat-Shibir to exploit these people’s belief for creating a movement to ‘save Islam’.
Islam does not tell you to attack minorities, to vandalize public property, the people at Shahbag are not opposing Islam, rather it promotes that we must keep our religion to ourselves, that in spite being Hindus, Muslims, Chrisitians we are Bangladeshis, and being a Bangladeshi we demand justice for war criminals. So my request to Jamat-Shibir activists, be human first, and be a Muslim, Hindu, Christian, a Buddhist. This world, nor any country, nor any place can be owned by a single ethnic society. This is our world and we have to coexist and respect others who have different faiths. And if you disagree to live with that, Police treatment is what you deserve.
Of ocurse, it is not a movement of Atheists, I feel most disappointed about the misconception spread by Jamat.
#Shahbag is NOT a movement led by atheists. It’s demands have no conflict/connection with any religion. Jamat staged that divide.

The expected part of this movement, like 1971, Shahbag has seen people who questions the integrity of the movement. David Bergman, a International Crime Trbunal reporter made famous for his unbiased outlooks toward the proceedings of Shabag movement recently published an article in The Hindu Op/Ed. Below is the areas where his remarks appeared as biased. http://i.imgur.com/xQJqdi0.jpg
No more today. I am confident the injustice that is happening today in Bangladesh will be conquered with justice. First we must end the violence right now, and all political parties must come forward. And Jamat-Shibir must be banned immediately as a political organization.
