Iron Maiden is so special to me, to millions of others. I’m one of those fans who doesn’t see anything wrong with this band; or shall I say, this metal institution.
Last week for the first time I enjoyed them in an open air concert – on September 3, 2026 at Parc Jean-Drapeau. Beautiful day. Thousands of people, I didn’t know this many people live in Montreal! Certainly never saw this many out together, since solar eclipse a few years back. Yeah, that’s the kind of pull Iron Maiden has.
I have to say this time Iron Maiden were very impressive even by their standard. More energetic and sharper than their performances in 2016 and 2019, both at the Bell Centre. I think they might have a new album in their mind – just putting out an idea out there!
Anthrax and Megadeth were so good as well. Megadeth did Tornado of Souls. Anthrax did Antisocial. I’m not an expert in metal but these songs are some of the best minutes of metal music in my opinion. Dave Mustaine live – this guy is something else!
On my way back home suddenly remembered my high school + college days. We used to go to underground metal shows at the Russian Cultural Center in Dhaka. I could suddenly access photographic memories from those days, fragments of moments, particularly this underground band who did an amazing cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name. Where are those bands? They exist, somewhere in time. It was a different world, I was lured the by phantom of the opera. Now I roam here – a stranger in a strange land.
